North Carolina is One Step Closer to Comprehensive  Sexuality Education Thanks to You

But There's Still a Lot of Work to Be  Done!   Raleigh - Abstinence-Based Comprehensive Sexuality  Education took a huge step forward today toward being made  into North Carolina law.  HB 879 passed the House  Committee on Health and was forwarded to the House Committee  on Education.  What does this mean?

  1. Our first obstacle has  been surpassed.  We spoke and the legislators  listened.  Over 700 emails were sent to the committee  members in opposition to this bill; over 2100  emails in support were sent!  Way to go,  everyone!  We awoke the silent majority and showed them  that we care and we're willing to show it!
  2. The race isn't over  yet  We won round one, but we have to win every  round.  The opposition only has to win once.  And  now that they've been thwarted at this step, they'll be  doubly rallied at the next step.  We need to give  ourselves a pat on the back and roll up our sleeves and get  back to work.  We need to show the Education committee  the same level of committment and more.
  3. We can make this  happen  The opposition thought it'd be easy to  defeat this bill.  They were wrong.  They thought  we'd roll over and let them win.  They were  wrong.
  4. Now they think they can defeat this bill in the  Education committee.  Say it with me: they're wrong.

 Now What Do I Do?
We need to  send out emails to the members of the Education  Committee.  They meet on Tuesdays and Thursdays, but we  don't yet have a date for this bill to come up.   Nevertheless, we need to present a show of support to HB  879.  We need to move quickly and let them know that we  care about our youth and their health.

A Parting Thought  You've been getting a lot of emails from me concerning  this bill.  Getting this made into law is a marathon, not  a sprint.  It's going to take a great deal of committment  from us and a great deal of energy to get it to the  Governor.  But I believe that we can do it.  I  believe that a committed group of people can make a  difference.  I believe that we can make this bill our  legacy to our children and to all children in North  Carolina.

Let's make this happen for our children and their future.
