Marriage Amendment Battle Phase II

Friends,

It didn't take long for Senator Basnight to respond to our flood of emails and calls...and the 5000+ citizens who travelled from all over NC to attend last Tuesday's rally were a perfect compliment to that opening effort! Combine that with the steady stream of people who are visiting www.ProtectMarriageNC.com to sign the online petition and our combined voice will become unavoidable. Thank you to all of you who took action last week to help protect marriage in North Carolina. Do not grow weary!

We must keep up the pressure on the Senate, but we also have a tremendous opportunity in the State House! Last Tuesday Representative Tim Moore (Cleveland Co.) filed House Bill 493 which is the sister bill to the Senate Defense of Marriage bill. This bill has 64 co-sponsors (52 Rep. + 12 Dem.) which is already a majority in the State House! How can the House possibly deny this bill a fair hearing on the floor? The new House Speaker, Mr. Joe Hackney (Chatham, Moore, Orange Co.) has taken over a position that was plagued with corruption and the abuse of power...will he set a new course or will he continue that sad legacy? It is our prayer that he will do what is so clearly right and make sure this bill gets to the floor of his chamber for a vote!

We must persevere if we are to see this victory...please take a few moments to do the following TODAY:

1. Continue to pray for our legislators!

2. Send a new email and make a call to Senator Basnight! Feel free to use the reply we have written by doing a "cut & paste" from this link, as well as using it for talking points. In a nutshell, we are expecting him to support and defend our representative form of government by allowing this bill to the floor for a vote! Send an email to your own House & Senate representatives reminding them how important this Marriage Amendment bill is to you and that you expect them to do everything in their power to see that it comes to the floor for a vote! 5. Make sure you have signed the online petition at www.ProtectMarriageNC.com and use the "invite" function to pass it along to every NC email address you have!
