Marriage Miracle today, but Speaker Hackney says NO WAY!!!

We saw a miracle in today's Rules Committee meeting, but the will of the people and their elected Representatives means nothing to Speaker of the House Joe Hackney...

During the meeting, the opposition tried to kill the bill by sending it to another committee, but the "NO's" defeated it 14 to 10!  After a brief delay (probably more maneuvering to kill it), Chairman Bill Owens called for a voice vote to send the bill to the floor of the House and the YES's won!  It was truly a miraculous and shocking moment.  The marriage bill has not made it this far in the past four years...

HOWEVER!!!  The news just hit that Speaker of the House Joe Hackney has said that he will use (abuse) the power of his office to KILL the bill! (see the breaking N&O story here)  Never mind that a majority of House members (64) are on this bill as co-sponsors (including 12 Democrats)!  Never mind that the Rules Committee voted to send it to the floor for a fair vote.

THE ONLY THING THAT SEEMS TO MATTER IN NORTH CAROLINA IS THE OPINION OF MR. HACKNEY IN THE HOUSE, OR MR. BASNIGHT IN THE SENATE!  That is NOT how a representative republic works...these men continue to abuse their power without consequence.

HERE IS WHAT MUST BE DONE:

1.   You need to email and call TODAY Speaker Hackney and insist that he allow this bill to the House floor to be voted on either Wednesday, 5/23 or Thursday, 5/24!  This abuse of power must stop! The will of the people and their elected representatives MUST NOT BE TRUMPED BY SPEAKER HACKNEY"S PERSONAL AGENDA!!!

2.   If you have a Democrat Representative (check by clicking here), your voice is CRITICAL!  You need to call them TODAY and insist that:

• They STAND UP AGAINST SPEAKER HACKNEY'S ABUSE OF POWER!
• They VOTE YES on H493 to protect traditional marriage to the fullest extent possible in North Carolina, and
• They VOTE YES on H493 to secure OUR right to vote on this Constitutional Amendment.

Finally, we must continute to fight this battle on our knees in prayer...even Speakner Hackney falls under God's jurisdiction.  Pray for God's intervention and for Speaker Hackney to have a change of heart!

Remember William Wilberforce...WE WILL NOT GIVE UP.
