C2A... FYI Help Support Enloe High School Teacher...Punished for allowing free speech in his classroom! Friends, Most of you have probably heard about Mr. Robert Escamilla, a strong Christian who taught at Enloe High School in Raleigh. He was suspended from his position a few months back after allowing a Christian guest speaker to share his personal experiences as a persecuted believer in Egypt, as well as his beliefs about the Muslim religion. A few parents complained about the content of the guests presentation, including a Muslim family. Within days, several national and local Muslim groups (Council on American Islamic Relations & Muslim American Public Affairs Council) were calling on the school system to fire Mr. Escamilla. The North Carolina chapter of the ACLU also joined in. Within days of that public barrage, Robert Escamilla was suspended while the school system conducted a 3-month "investigation". After completing it's investigation, the Wake County school system:
The Wake County school system has removed Mr. Escamilla from a school that he loved and taught faithfully at for years, decreased his earnings potential, and permanently scarred his personnel file, not to mention his reputation. We were struck by the irony of this situation as we looked back on the incident that took place at Partnership Elementary School back in 2005 (check out the ActionGram here). In that case, a New Age teacher was actually paid by the school system to come into classes at Partnership (K-4) to teach her "stress reduction techniques". Her "New Age" teachings were considered no problem at all by the school system (although the U.S. Supreme Court has ruled that New Age is, in fact, a religion). The school system looks past the New Age guest, but goes ballistic over the Christian guest? We find that very interesting... Do you want to help support Mr. Escamilla's campaign to get his job back and clear his good name and personnel file? Then PLEASE attend the School Board meeting tomorrow afternoon, June 5th at 2:45pm! There will be a group of supporters there to speak on Mr. Escamilla's behalf because he can't do so while he appeals the school system decision. Also, please send an email to the School Board members (addresses below) and give them a call to voice your support of Mr. Escamilla. The School Board meets at 3600 Wake Forest Road, just a few blocks north of the beltline. Thank you so much for your help! In His Service, Steve Noble, Chairman
Mr. Del Burns, Superintendant: aburns@wcpss.net
