C2A... FYI

See You at the Pole! Wednesday, September 26th

Friends,

In 2 Chronicles 7:14 God told us that He would heal our land, but there were a few things we needed to do first:

  • Humble ourselves
  • PRAY
  • Seek His face
  • Turn from our wicked ways

See You at the Pole (SYATP) began on September 12, 1990 when 45,000 students in four states gathered at their school flag poles at 7am to pray for theirテつfriends, schools and leaders (check out the inspiringテつhistory here).テつ Next Wednesday, September 26th,テつover 3 million students across America will do the same.テつ

Will your children be a partテつof thatテつconcert of prayer?テつ Will you?

If we aren't willing to pray about the things that we hold dear, all the activism in the world won't work.テつ If you have children in school, please encourage them to take part in SYATP 2007!テつ We also want to encourage YOU to be there as well...and yes, even Teachers can participate!テつ

The SYATP website has some tremendous information about thisテつannual event as well as great resources and even some "clip art" so you can make your own invitations!テつ Visit them online at www.syatp.com .テつ Many local churches are encouraging their students to take part, so be sure to check with your youth program as well!

You may be wondering about the so-called "separation of church and state" issue as it relates to this type of event.テつテつSYATP is student-led, it is before school hours, and it is outside of any school building. It does not cost the district anything financially for students to meet to pray, so they arenテ「竄ャ邃「t テ「竄ャナ兎stablishing religionテ「竄ャツ with tax money.テつテつ

Teachersテつhave a constitutional right to take part as well...but they need to do so as private citizens and they should not discuss any school issues during the event.テつテつOur legal friends atテつthe Alliance Defense Fund (ADF) also suggest that teachers go straight to the pole for the event before they enter the school for their work day.テつ Unfortunately,テつlast year one of the schools in Wake County (Root Elementary), under the direction ofテつWake Co. Public School System Attorneys, actually informed teachers that they were not allowed to take part in SYATP!テつテつOur friends at ADF sent them a letter outlining the legal precedents that clearly showed this move was a violationテつof teacher's rights under the U.S. Constitution.テつ Just last week, we had them send another letter toテつSuperintendent Del Burns as well as the rest of the School Board Membersテつreminding them of the constitutional rights of allテつteacher's.テつ If the school system violates these rights, we have Christianテつlegal defense organizations ready to file suit.

Finally, students do have the right to pass out invitations to other students, teachers and staff...but should do so during non-instructional times (lunch, before or after school).

The SYATP website also has good legal support information.

With all the turmoil that our school systems have to deal with, let's gather at the pole on Wednesday, September 26th at 7:00amテつand liftテつthem up in prayer!

In His Service,

Steve Noble, Chairman
