PLEASE DON'T SEE "The Golden Compass"!!!

Friends,

If the "Unibomber" sent you a package would you open it???  Of course not.

That's why you should not let your children see THE GOLDEN COMPASS which opens this Friday. 

There has been a lot of "buzz" about this movie, and for good reason:

• The author of the books the movie is based on is a "devout" atheist (Philip Pullman)
• In his own words, "I'm trying to undermine the basis of Christian belief" and "My books are about killing God".
• All of the marketing is directed at children (a 180 MILLION dollar juggernaut).
• It looks "cool" like The Chronicles of Narnia and its anti-Christian bias is well disguised.
• One of the marketing "gimmicks"...get your very own cute and cuddly Daemon! (pronounced "demon"), available at FAO Schwartz and other fine retailers soon!
• If successful, the next two installments will be along shortly, and they far more overt in their anti-Christian fervor.

Once a young person sees the movie, they will probably want to read the books, and THAT is where the real problem lies.  Unlike the movie, the books have not been "cleansed" to make them less controversial.  The later books are even more direct in their religious criticism. One character, a former nun, says: "The Christian religion is a very powerful and convincing mistake, that's all."  Add to that some homosexual angels, evil church leaders and a senile God and you get a thorough trashing of Christianity.

I know what some of you are thinking...

"Come on, Steve.  It can't be that bad!  Do you see a satanic "boogeyman" everywhere you look?"  If that is what you think, your problem isn't with me...its with the Bible:

Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour.

1 Peter 5:8

The sooner we all realize that life really IS a spiritual war, the better off we all will be...especially our children.  Surely we have better things to do with our time and money this Christmas season than invest in this garbage.  A Pastor was asked once why he didn't let his children watch TV.  His reply was as amusing as it was profound:

"For the same reason I don't let them drink water out of the toilet" 

Believe it or not, that reminds me of a passage of Scripture:

Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. 

Romans 12:2

Will The Golden Compass "renew your mind" as Paul directs us in Romans?  Would you let your children drink from the toilet?  Then why see this piece of garbage?
