THE RUNWAY strip club... MAJOR DEVELOPMENTS

There have been some major developments on THE RUNWAY...
 
We have been engaged in fighting this proposed strip club for nearly a year now (see the old ActionGrams here), and there have been many twists and turns, but nothing like we have seen in the last seven days.  Here is where it stands:
 
We received a tip that Dr. Phong Nguyen, the only local investor in the club, "sold the land" on May 6th.  We immediately sought confirmation, but found none.  In the process of digging for the facts, what we found was a $1.7M construction loan deed of trust had been signed on May 8th.  It looked like the club owners were getting ready to start construction.

The deed of trust was signed by Mr. David Baucom, "Consultant for PRS Partners LLC".  We "Googled" Mr. Baucom and found some very disturbing information.   It turns out that David "Slim" Baucom of Charlotte, NC is one of the leading porn peddlers in the state and owns 13 strip clubs himself (operated under "MAL Entertainment").  If you check out his website for MAL be prepared for some very graphic sexual images.  Mr. Baucom was also involved in the campaign contributions scandal surrounding former Speaker of the House Mr. Jim Black (see the News & Observer article here).  Mr. Baucom is indeed an alarming new player in this challenge to our community.

I contacted Dr. Nguyen's attorneys to try and clear up this "land sale" rumor and they related to me the following:  Dr. Nguyen has transferred his interest in THE RUNWAY and is out of the picture completely.  He wanted to "clear his name".  I asked if he transferred his interest to Mr. David Baucom and was told that he had.  We are very thankful that Dr. Nguyen chose to remove himself from THE RUNWAY.

HERE IS SOME VERY ENCOURAGING NEWS!  Just last evening we learned that the NC State Supreme Court has decide to allow another look at the case!  We were not optimistic, but PRAISE THE LORD for this great news!  This buys our community at least another several months to pray and stand up against the owners of THE RUNWAY.
 
So now what?
 
Here is what we all need to do:

1. Pray for the legal proceedings to go our way.  Pray for good judgments and excellent representation.  Pray for God's favor.
2. Pray for the three businesses and their leaders that were brave enough to bring the lawsuit against THE RUNWAY:  Triangle Equipment Company/Barbara Mangum...The Angus Barn/Van Eure...Triangle Coatings/Terry & Deborah Overton.
3. Stay alert and ready to act if we need to embark on any grassroots campaigns as we continue to stand strong against THE RUNWAY.  Called2Action is the only Christian group that is taking action on this matter and we will stay the course.
