Living an Impactful Christian Life Steve's "Must Read" List "Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind." The activism and awareness books are great, but they are nothing compared to the transforming power of living out an authentic Christian life. I have read all these books (they appear chronologically from the first one I read to the most recent) and have used many of them in my preparations to teach an adult Sunday school class. Experiencing God by Henry Blackaby This is truly a "How to Walk with God for Dummies" kind of study. WARNING: I went to Kenya on a mission trip after completing this one! Making Life Work by Bill Hybels A very practical look at the Book of Proverbs and how to apply the wisdom found within its pages. If You Want to Walk on Water, You Have to Get Out of the Boat by John Ortberg An amusing but profound look at what it means to walk by faith. This book had a tremendous impact on me and we used it in our adult Sunday school class as a study. The Purpose Driven Life by Rick Warren The tremendous best-seller that helps you understand God's purpose for your life. Every Man's Battle by Arterburn & Stoeker A book every man should read! This deals with our lustful nature and how to defeat it. The Making of a Man of God by Alan Redpath An amazing study on the life of King David, this book was given to me by one of my mentor's who saw God's hand on my life as Called2Action got rolling. Stop Dating the Church by Joshua Harris A powerful book that will challenge you to get serious about your role in the local church. We did this as a study in my Sunday school class and it was really impactful. Family Man, Family Leader by Philip Lancaster Watch out, Dads! This book will hit you between the eyes regarding your role as the Head of the Household. Victorious Christian Service by Alan Redpath A great study on Nehemiah, the man of God who led the Israelites to re-build the walls of Jerusalem in 52 days! Heaven by Randy Alcorn This must-read book will blow you away as it unpacks all the bible has to say about Heaven, the New Heaven and the New Earth. We all look forward to Christmas... we should be WAY more excited about Heaven! The Unusual Suspect by Stephen Baldwin The actor turned hard-core Christian zealot! This is a great book about a pretty wild turn-around in the life of a well known party machine. The Invisible War by Chip Ingram A tremendous book about Angels, Demons and spiritual warfare. This is a serious look at a serious subject that far too many Christians know far too little about. The basis for the most popular series of Sunday school classes I have ever taught. Searching for Heaven on Earth by David Jeremiah A great study on the Book of Ecclesiastes... when the wisest man in human history speaks abut his life and what he learned, we better listen! Fresh Wind, Fresh Fire by Jim Cymbala The remarkable and inspiring story behind the Brooklyn Tabernacle... what an amazing example of the power of prayer and how the Holy Spirit moves when God's people hit their knees. This is a MUST READ!!! Made to Count by Bob Reccord We should all be "on mission" all the time and this book shows us how that can become a reality. Revolution by George Barna An eye-opening look at the changing church in America. Fresh Power by Jim Cymbala Currently reading... but awesome so far! |
